Donor/Supporter

We have just finalized our 2008 strategic plan, which includes some lofty goals for us over the next few years. The plan calls for us to increase our impact throughout our service area here in Southwest Georgia. We plan to increase our impact by:
-
Doubling our yearly distribution numbers to 5 million lbs. over the next four years;
-
Purchasing the equipment (i.e. computer, transportation and warehouse) necessary to meet those distribution numbers;
-
Increasing our child hunger initiatives (i.e. BackPack and Kids Cafe Programs);
-
Building the financial reserves necessary to ensure that the Food Bank will be here for many years to come;
-
Starting a purchased product program to fill the gap between what our partner agencies need and what we are able to provide them through product donations; and
-
Building a new facility that will help us expand our impact even more and help us to become more self-sufficient.

To jump start our plan, we have set a goal to raise $200,000 by the end of 2008 to support phase 1 of our capital giving campaign – called the Gold Rush Campaign. You can contribute to our campaign or to our general operating account in three different ways. First, you can send us your old gold jewelry. With gold prices running higher than normal, you have the opportunity to give us a substantial gift without having to dip into your bank account. Please mail your old gold jewelry to us at P.O. Box 71235, Albany, GA 31708. Second, we are set up to receive stock contributions. To learn more or to make a contribution, contact Tony Bueschen, CPA with The Jenkins Group at (229)883-8028. Finally, you can contribute to the Food Bank financially by clicking on the button above. You will have the option to give by credit card or to make a pledge to pay by check at a future date.
Also, we are always on the lookout for food and/or grocery item donations. Without product donations, we would be severely limited in what we would have to offer our partner agencies and, ultimately, those in need. If you are a potential food and/or grocery item donor, please contact Tony Hall at tony@foodbank-swga.org or (229)883-5959 x13 to discuss the details of your donation. If you or your company would like to sponsor a food drive on behalf of the Food Bank, please contact Cheryl Pittman at cheryl@foodbank-swga.org.
We know that there are numerous organizations with good causes out there vying for your charitable contributions. We do ask, however, that you consider the impact you want to make with your giving. By partnering with the Food Bank as a contributor, you are aligning yourself with the largest hunger relief organization in Southwest Georgia and helping to provide one of our most basic needs – food. Also, together we have the potential to positively impact the lives of over 100,000 people in Southwest Georgia, which consists of over 25,000 children. That’s making a difference – that’s fighting hunger, feeding hope!
Volunteer
“Everyone can be great because anyone can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t even have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve . . . You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love…”—Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Food Bank of Southwest Georgia relies on thousands of volunteers every year to fulfill our mission of feeding people in need in Southwest Georgia. We work with individuals, businesses, and civic organizations to design a fun and rewarding volunteer experience. This community support saves our Food Bank hundreds of dollars every year, allowing us to put more of our resources to work feeding the hungry. Here are some areas in which you can help:
Sorting and Repackaging
When food and other grocery products are donated to the Food Bank, we usually receive it in bulk from companies or in barrels as a result of a food drive. Volunteers help us inspect, sort and repack these donations of non-perishable food, paper products and other grocery items for either distribution or to be placed on our shopping shelves. Volunteers also help us stock our shopping shelves, and keep the shelves clean and neatly arranged. These volunteer opportunities offer a sociable atmosphere and great team-building experiences.
Warehouse Assistance
In carrying out our warehouse duties of receiving product, distributing product and maintaining a clean and safe environment, we depend heavily on volunteer support. Volunteers help us pull orders, keep the warehouse organized and clean, and load orders for our partner agencies. (A special thanks goes out to The Anchorage for their consistent support in this area!)
Administrative Assistance
With us having a small administrative staff, volunteer help around the office is a big help to us. We use administrative volunteers to answer the telephone, file, help with bulk mailings, and various other tasks.
As you can see from Our Promises, we try to make our volunteers feel like valued members of our team because we know that your contribution increases our effectiveness. We also strive to make your time with us as rewarding as possible because we want you to come back again and again! If you would like to learn more about these and other volunteer opportunities, contact Cheryl Pittman at cheryl@foodbank-swga.org or at (229)883-5959 x14.
