Second Harvest of South Georgia, Inc. has established and developed partnerships with growers, processors, retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, and restaurants throughout our 10-county service area.  We encourage them to donate- not dump- their excess inventory, overstocked items, discontinued product lines, slightly damaged/gently used items, and product that may have performed poorly for them financially.  Trained staff members inspect, clean, sort, and repackage items; they ensure the safe storage of all donated product; and they distribute the goods to over 300 local charities in the south Georgia community.  Donations are given to people in need at food pantries, soup kitchens, Kids Cafes, senior centers, homeless shelters, community kitchens, and youth programs.

The Product Recovery Program harvests food from more than 30 local food donors each week.  Donations are collected from companies such as Wal-Mart, SAM’S, Harveys, Publix, and Food Lion, as well as local restaurants, schools, and hospitals.  In addition to helping the needy by providing food and grocery items, product recovery also helps Second Harvest of South Georgia in helping the environment.  Each year more than 1.5 million pounds of damaged food is kept out of local landfills.
